What makes the Epiphany Funds unique? The fund seeks to achieve its investment objective by tracking the overall performance of the Faith and Family Values 100 Index (FFV), a sector neutral, market cap weighted index comprised of the 100 largest U.S.-based companies who pass stringent moral and ethical standards. The principles applied to companies included in the FFV 100 are based on the social justice teachings of the Catholic Church and the criteria established by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in their teaching document, "Socially Responsible Investment Guidelines." The fund is a "Catholic S&P 500."
What are the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops guidelines for investing? The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has created and adopted a set of Socially Responsible Investment Guidelines. Socially Responsible Investing (also known as SRI) is a form of investing in which decisions are based on both financial and social criteria. The specific guidelines established by the USCCB are rooted firmly in core teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Investing in socially responsible companies is subject to risks such as competitive industry conditions, limited earnings history and a reliance on one or a limited number of products. These factors may effect the value of your investment. Are the Epiphany Funds for Catholics only? Absolutely not. While our business model and investing philosophy are firmly rooted in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, there is nothing to which we ascribe as investors that any truly committed Christian couldn't support.
Shareholder advocacy is a method of making change within corporations; it can take such forms as proxy voting, dialogue with corporate leadership, and initiating or supporting shareholder resolutions. Once the Epiphany Funds invest in a company we can, through our shareholder voting rights, seek to influence corporate culture and shape corporate policies in a manner consistent with the ethics and morality of Biblical Christianity.
A "no-load" fund is a type of mutual fund that does not charge a sales commission or "load fee" when an investor buys a share of the fund. There are other expenses that apply to a continued investment in the fund and are described in the fund's prospectus.
